What is the difference between a transfer (AA) and a career (AAS) degree?

What is the difference between a transfer (AA) and a career (AAS) degree?

  1. At UACCB we have two basic kinds of degree plans, the AAS plans and the AA plans.

The Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Degrees are not designed for transferring into a bachelor's degree program, although SOME course in the program may transfer to other institutions. It is typically designed for employment purposes, and students should not assume that the courses can be transferred to another institution. While many institutions do accept some courses in the AAS programs, the general rule is that courses are not accepted in transfer toward a bachelor's degree.

The AA degree plans (including Life Science, Gen Ed, Business focus, AAT and AS) are designed for students who wish to pursue a bachelor's degree at a four-year college or university.

The moral of the story is talk to your advisor! Make sure you know (or have an idea) about where you would like to land in a few years, so that your advisor can guide you down the correct pathway. We all want you to be placed appropriately in the classes, and degree plan of your choice.
